Als u niet zelfredzaam bent en thuis niet-medische zorg nodig heeft, valt u onder de verantwoordelijkheid van de gemeente waar u woont. Dit ligt vast in de Wet maatschappelijke ondersteuning (WMO). De gemeente moet ervoor zorgen dat u zo lang mogelijk thuis kunt blijven wonen door begeleiding, dagbesteding, ondersteuning van een mantelzorger, opvang in een beschermde woonomgeving en opvang in het geval van huiselijk geweld aan te bieden. In sommige situaties en onder bepaalde voorwaarden kan een gemeente een persoonsgebonden budget (PGB) verstrekken zodat u zelf zorg kan kiezen en huren. Dit budget wordt niet op uw eigen rekening uitbetaald, maar gaat naar een Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB).
